As my MA/MSc dissertation argues, between 1976 and 2000—years of tremendous upheaval within Uttarakhand—Uttarakhand transformed into a nexus of tourism and Hindu nationalism. During this period, Uttarakhand not only increasingly aligned with tourism for its development; interrelatedly, various voices and discourses construed of Uttarakhand’s popular tourist spaces and evolving state profile in a Hindu nationalist manner.
